Come travel with me…
I cannot NOT write. I think I was born with a pen (okay, today it’s a stylus) in my hand. So, wherever we go (and we travel a LOT), my diary tags along too. So does my tiny #NoFilter Canon SD 1200. And together we create a world from a unique perspective. My perspective. This blog is the world through my eyes, a bit offbeat, sometimes quirky, always different.
This Blog is for my short-attention-span friends out there … less words, more pictures. But if you like what you see, I also have full-on longer-length articles of our wayward travels elsewhere on this website.

Moustiers arts & crafts
Posted on: 29th June 2018| By: Marielle I loved the tables in the café with its delectable pain au chocolat. Vivid colour followed by shades of grey . . . And this zebra simply stole my heart!

Moustiers-Ste-Marie
Posted on: 28th June 2018| By: MarielleThe country roads leading to this cliffside village wind through, not rolling wheatlands, but hill and dale of pale lilac and rich violet lavandin and lavender. It makes for a lovely drive. From our guidebook you’d never have known that Moustiers was such a charmingly pretty village. It’s a place of fountains and flower baskets…

Our local village, Valensole
Posted on: 28th June 2018| By: Marielle We’re slipping easily into the Provençal way, my French making such leaps and bounds I have the shopkeepers rattling back at me at a pace that leaves me speechless. Then, embarrassingly, I have to ask Pardon? We’re such frequent shoppers at the local supermarket we even get discount coupons. In the…

Bushman in Provence
Posted on: 28th June 2018| By: Marielle I’ve always said in Hirsh’s previous life he was a Bushman because of his love for building fires and braaiing outdoors. (He also produces a mean string of Khoisan clicks.) Case in point: Hirsh never failed to grab the opportunity to light a fire at our gîte at La Petite Campagne. (This after…

Riez & Roman ruins
Posted on: 27th June 2018| By: MarielleTranslation: So, Pomp – – – – [part of sign missing here; I assume it’s the cat’s name!]. You, yourself, have also come back for the bread. “Tradition rediscovered.” Bakery. Our drive to the village of Riez was inspired mainly by the idea of seeing Roman ruins (a series of Corinthian columns) but it’s quite…

A world full of lavender
Posted on: 27th June 2018| By: MarielleDon’t disturb the photographer. Hard at work … Violet, lilac, amethyst, mauve … all these colours could be used to describe the deep hues of the lavender here. It was first cultivated on the Valensole plateau in the 19th century, and the town still produces 80% of the world’s lavender today. We’ve been gobsmacked by…

A provencal morning
Posted on: 26th June 2018| By: MarielleValensole is the centre of the lavender industry. We had no idea our timing would be so perfect, but thank you to a rescheduled wedding in Israel! In Tuscany it was a rear attack by voracious blood-sucking mozzies … wherever we went, there were tourists sporting giant red weals on arms and legs, Hirsh definitely…

A gite in Valensole
Posted on: 26th June 2018| By: MarielleNot too shabby to move from our Tuscan abode to this gîte (the French word for a holiday apartment in rural France) near Valensole in Provence … two levels and an outdoor terrace. Poppy and wildflower headboard in the upstairs bedroom, geometric wallpaper and cushions in the downstairs lounge, a funky kitchen cutlery chandelier in…
